Adaptive Schemes for Home-based DSM Systems

چکیده
Home-based consistency model, a variant of lazy release consistency model (LRC), is a recent development in the DSM field that has open out many areas for further research and development. In this paper, we present 2 adaptive schemes for home-based DSM systems: home migration and dynamic adaptation between write-invalidation and writeupdate protocols. The two fully automatic schemes are in line with our objective of building an adaptive DSM system that involves minimal user intervention and yet delivers good performances. We shall present evidence of this by doing a performance evaluation of the two proposed schemes in our software DSM system Orion.

ORION: An Adaptive Home-Based Software Distributed Shared Memory System
In this paper, we describe a multithreaded software distributed shared memory (DSM) system named Orion. It has been developed to provide POSIX-thread (pthread) like interface. We believe this will avoid creating another unique set of application programming interface and ease the porting of pthread programs to a distributed environment. Orion implements home-based consistency model. In this pap...
متن کاملNew adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation
Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...
متن کاملReducing Cache Invalidation Overheads in Wormhole Routed DSMs Using Multidestination Message Passing
Current generation DSM systems use point-topoint (unicast) messages for cache invalidations. This incurs a large number of control messages, heavy network traffic, and high occupancy at home nodes. This paper introduces a new approach to reduce these overheads by using multidestination-based reservation and gather worms for distributing invalidation requests and collecting acknowledgments. متن کاملOptimal Combined and Adaptive Protection of Active Distribution Networks Considering Different System Topologies Incorporating Optimal Selection of Standard Relay Curves
The change in the topology of active distribution networks (ADNs) is one of the essential challenges that might affect the protection schemes. The conventional protection schemes based on base topology result in some coordination constraint violations in other topologies due to the outage of upstream substations and distributed generation units. In this article, new combinational and adaptive p...
متن کاملPerformance Optimization of Software Distributed Shared Memory Systems
Software Distributed Shared Memory Systems (DSMs, or Shared Virtual Memory) are advocated to be an ideal vehicle for parallel programming because of its combination of programmability of shared memory and scalability of distributed memory systems. The challenge in building a software DSM system is to achieve good performance over a wide range of parallel programs without requiring programmers t...
